X-Files Is BACK

This just in from the BBC. They’re going to do another X-files movie.

WOO. One hopes that the movie they’re planning is anything like the last one. You know, with the killer bees and stuff.

Life Imitates CTHULHU FHTAGN

H.P. Lovecraft, creator of pseduo-Victorian-horror-sci-fi, is awesome.

In “The Call of Cthulhu” the coordinates for R’lyeh, Cthulhu’s watery grave, are given at 47°9′S, 126°43′W, near the Pacific pole of inaccessibility. Totally arbitrary and fictional, right?

Nope. In the summer of 1997, the NOAA detected a HUGE unidentified underwater sound, nicknamed “The Bloop” near the same coordinates. The source, apparently, was biological. The sound has not happened since. CNN article. Wikipedia Coverage.

Listen to the Bloop. Freaky.

According to the article, some speculate that the sound may have come from a “huge and as-yet unidentified species of octopus or squid.”

Coincidence? I think not.

Die Hard with a Star Wars Gag

Howdy. For my inaugural post I thought I’d go with something that can’t lose: this awesome Die Hard music video. Also check out ‘The Inbox of Nardo Pace, the Empire’s Worst Engineer.’

Stay tuned for my upcoming series of post on Dumb Summer Movies including an examination on why Live Free or Die Hard lived free while Transformers merely transformed a potentially awesome premise into crap.

Next Up: Transformers – Racist or Xenophobic? You Decide.

Exopolitics, Ike, and Dentistry

A few days ago I made a post with an academic article that was writting about extraterrestrial infiltration of government agencies.

Apparently, further examination reveals that this is part of a developing field of political science called exopolitics, which seems mostly to be people speculating about the political implications of contact between humans and aliens. The field of research sports all the usual academic trappings, including a fancy pants conference. Which is cool, beyond confirming widely held-suspicions that polysci is a softie field fit for fools and blockheads.

More interestingly in a wikipedia-kind of way — it’s also the basis for a ridiculous debate about presidental teeth condition.

Oh Boy

This study paper analyses the extent to which clandestine organizations embedded in the military andi ntelligence branches of government have been infiltrated by different ET factions, and the threat this poses to the sovereignty of humanity.

ET, of course, meaning aliens. AWESOME.
